The public prosecutor of the French island of Corsica said that former separatist leader Alain Orsoni was shot dead on Monday during his mother's funeral in the village of Vero, located 30 km east of Ajaccio, the capital of the island in the Mediterranean Sea. "This is a tragedy that has shaken all of Corsica," the prosecutor's office said. "We are working to establish all the circumstances of this crime". The attack took place during the funeral ceremony for Orsoni's mother. According to investigators, the perpetrator opened fire with a firearm. Alain Orsoni was a well-known leader of the Corsican separatist movement.
