The 25-year-old Swedish athlete, Armand Duplantis, achieved a historic milestone during the tenth edition of the All Star Pole Vault in Clermont-Ferrand, France. He set a new world record by jumping 6.27 meters, surpassing his previous mark of 6.26 meters reached in August 2024 in Chorzów, Poland. With this achievement, Duplantis has broken the world record 11 times, consolidating his absolute dominance in the discipline.
In each attempt of the competition, Duplantis demonstrated his strength and talent. He started the jump at 5.65 meters, easily clearing heights of 5.91 and 6.02 meters. By the time he reached 6.07 meters, he had already secured victory. However, he decided not to settle and, with a single attempt, surpassed 6.27 meters, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure.
After his feat, Duplantis expressed his happiness about the achievement and highlighted the coincidence of setting the record while the song "Bop," composed by himself, was playing. The event had special significance as he broke the record at a competition organized by his friend and mentor, Renaud Lavillenie, who held the world record until 2020.
In addition to Duplantis's record, the day also witnessed brilliant performances from other athletes. Greek Emmanouil Karalis set a new national record with 6.02 meters, while Australian Kurtis Marschall took third place with 5.91 meters.
As for his immediate future plans, Duplantis will not compete in the European Indoor Championship in March, as he will focus on his next meeting in Uppsala, Sweden, before traveling to Nanjing, China, for the Indoor World Championships. Without setting limits, the Swedish athlete's next goal is to surpass 6.28 and 6.29 meters to approach the mythical barrier of 6.30 meters, a mark that seems inevitable in his tireless pursuit to challenge the heights. Armand Duplantis continues to raise the limits of pole vaulting.
