Two men were detained on suspicion of "causing harm using explosive or incendiary substances," after bombs were thrown at the Russian consulate general in Marseille, the second largest city in France, on Monday.
One of the representatives of law enforcement agencies reported that the incident occurred around 10:30 PM local time, at that time employees of the security service were located in the consulate building.
"The people detained after the attack on the consulate in Marseille are in extreme environments, and, judging by everything, they had sufficiently serious intentions," he added.
"We are analyzing the subjects to understand what their possible intentions were and what the nature of this attack was," the source close to the investigation commented, emphasizing that the working processes at the consulate were not violated.
