Buenos Aires, December 8 (NA) -- A water leak at the Louvre Museum at the end of November damaged several hundred books in its Egyptology library, French media reported on Sunday. Francis Steinbock, the museum's deputy director, stated that the incident, which occurred on November 26, affected between 300 and 400 volumes, including Egyptology journals and scientific documentation regularly used by researchers. Furthermore, according to statements to local media reported by Xinhua and accessed by the Argentine News Agency, he said that no heritage artwork or artifacts were affected and that no "irreversible or permanent losses" were identified. Meanwhile, Steinbock added that the damaged books, while "extremely useful and frequently consulted," "are not unique in the world." According to the museum, the affected volumes will be dried and sent to a bookbinder for restoration before being returned to the shelves.
