According to Insee, in the case of full-time work, the average salary of women is 14.2% lower than that of men in France. With the aim of promoting gender equality, the French government presented a five-year plan in 2023 focused on several aspects, including the fight against violence. The number of support institutions for victims was increased and a dedicated hotline was strengthened to improve assistance. However, some organizations felt these measures were insufficient.

Recently, in various cities in France, women mobilized in a demonstration called by around 50 organizations to denounce inequalities, especially in the workplace. The march in Paris started from the Place de la République to Nation. Previously, a radical feminist march was initially prohibited and then authorized almost at the last minute.

The average salary of women in the private sector in France remains 22% lower than that of men, according to the National Institute of Statistics. Myriam Lebkiri from the CGT union emphasized that women face obstacles such as part-time work, interruptions in their careers, and difficulties in advancing to management positions.

Organizations fighting against sexual and gender violence demand an investment of 3 billion euros and the implementation of a "comprehensive framework law" across all sectors. These organizations pointed to the relevance of emblematic media cases such as Dominique Pelicot, Le Souarnec, and the Bétharam case to demonstrate that this is an oppressive patriarchal system, according to Salomé Hocquard from the National Union of Students of France (Unef).
