The Paris Court of Appeal announced today that it will hear the appeal against the initial verdict in the case of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy regarding Libyan funding for his 2007 election campaign. The hearing is scheduled between March 16 and June 6 of this year. On September 25 of last year, the first-instance court sentenced Sarkozy to five years in prison, of which he served 20 days before being released on Monday while remaining under judicial supervision. The Paris criminal court convicted Sarkozy of intentionally allowing his partners to contact the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in Libya to request illegal funding for the campaign that brought him to the French presidency in 2007. After his release on Monday, Sarkozy posted on the X platform: "The law has been applied." "I am now preparing for the appeal trial. My focus is solely on one goal: to prove my innocence. The truth will prevail. It is a clear lesson that life has taught me."
