France and the UK, backed by dozens of countries, have initiated the creation of a multinational force to ensure Ukraine's security after the war with Russia ends. However, the plan has caused disagreement among allies and strong rejection in Moscow.

France and UK Insist on Deploying Multinational Force in Ukraine

Paris/London, November 26, 2025 – Total News Agency-TNA. France and the UK insisted on Tuesday on the need to deploy a multinational force in Ukraine once the war against Russia is over, demanding “real and solid” security guarantees to secure a potential ceasefire.

At a new meeting of the Coalition of the Volunteers—comprising dozens of European countries as well as non-European nations like Canada, Australia, Turkey, Japan, and New Zealand—the leaders Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer reaffirmed their commitment to establishing a military presence on Ukrainian soil after the conflict ends.

Macron defended before international partners that “a true peace requires guarantees that are not just on paper,” and emphasized that the future force—named Multinational Force – Ukraine (MNF-U)—could deploy in strategic points like Kyiv or Odesa for security, training, and stabilization tasks.

However, the proposal is already reshaping the diplomatic landscape: Europe is trying to secure an active role in the post-war period while explicitly challenging Russian influence in the region.

The future of the MNF-U depends on a peace agreement or a verifiable ceasefire being reached.

This possibility has generated strong tensions among the coalition partners: while some countries, such as Sweden, Denmark, and Australia, have shown openness, others—like Poland, Greece, and Italy—have been reluctant. The plan, however, awakens deep resistances in Moscow, which rejects any foreign military presence in Ukraine.

For his part, Starmer declared that the coalition must translate its commitments into concrete facts: “Our military planners have worked hard; that multinational force will be vital to ensure that Ukraine can defend itself.”

According to official versions, some 26 countries have already committed to providing security guarantees, with some willing to contribute troops once hostilities end.

France and the UK were placed at the forefront of the project, and agreed that the initial headquarters of the coalition's general staff will be in Paris—with eventual rotation to London—while the deployment is being prepared.

For many in the West, the initiative represents a clear signal of determination: if the war culminates in a ceasefire, the coalition will be willing to “put boots on the ground” to prevent a resurgence of Russian aggression.
