French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot expressed concerns about Donald Trump's potential lack of support for European defense and the implications of increased tariffs on both the EU and US economies.

Concerns Over Trump's Priorities in Europe

The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, expressed his opinion on the Trump administration in an interview with the public channel France 24. Barrot commented that Trump would not want to allow Russia to carry out the largest territorial annexation in Europe in 75 years by abandoning the Ukrainians. He also mentioned the economic situation in Russia on the brink of suffocation with interest rates at 21%.

Regarding NATO, Barrot noted that under Trump’s presidency, the United States would not prioritize European defense and advocated for promoting the European Union's autonomy in this area. Regarding the increase in tariffs announced by Trump, Barrot opined that everyone would lose, including the European Union as the main trading partner of the United States, as well as American companies dependent on foreign trade.

Barrot highlighted the importance of not making miscalculations when applying massive tariffs indiscriminately, as this would have negative consequences for the middle-class American taxpayer. He warned that this action could enshrine the law of the strongest and would have serious implications globally.
