Legal Dispute Between PSG and Mbappé Exceeds €420 Million

The French newspaper L'Equise has revealed a legal dispute between Paris Saint-Germain and their former forward, Kylian Mbappé, who now plays for Real Madrid. The total value of the dispute exceeds €420 million and relates to the termination of their contractual relationship. Paris Saint-Germain is demanding a substantial financial compensation of €180 million from Mbappé, citing the 'loss of opportunity' the club suffered due to the player's refusal to accept a lucrative transfer offer made in July 2023. Conversely, Mbappé is demanding €240 million from the club as compensation for the reclassification of his contract and unpaid entitlements, as well as for the 'moral harassment' he claims he endured at the end of his contract with the club. Mbappé's lead lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, confirmed in the Paris Labour Court that her client was subjected to 'immense pressure' from Paris Saint-Germain due to his refusal to extend his contract until 2025. Verheyden stated that Mbappé experienced a 'terrible period' when he was threatened with exclusion from playing if he did not renew, criticizing the club's actions, which 'believes that everything can be bought'. She also emphasized that the €300 million offer from a Saudi club, made in July 2023, was not presented to her client for approval, although previous media reports had identified the club in question as Al-Hilal. Mbappé is specifically demanding €55 million related to unpaid bonuses and salaries, while his lawyers estimate that the due amount could reach €240 million if his fixed-term contract had been converted to a permanent one, in addition to the moral damages he suffered.
