Paris, AFP — Despite being 37 years old, French striker for Al-Ittiffak club Karim Benzema has not ruled out a return to his national team, he told sports newspaper L'Équipe in an interview published Thursday. Benzema, who retired from international football after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, said: "If they tell me to go to the French national team for the World Cup and I say no, I would be lying." The former Real Madrid striker had previously said, seven months before the World Cup final, when asked if he would join the national team: "I am a footballer, so I play football. When I am asked to join, I come and play." He added: "I love football and I love winning. I love winning titles. That's the most important thing for me. If I am called up to the national team, I will come."
