Footballer Achraf Hakimi to be tried for rape

The Moroccan international footballer Achraf Hakimi will be tried for rape. His lawyer and the Nanterre prosecutor's office, which is handling the case, have announced this. The case concerns the accusation brought in February 2023 by a young woman. The 27-year-old Hakimi stated that he will calmly await the trial, which will 'allow the truth to come to light publicly.' He also emphasized that he will not tolerate any discrediting campaigns. 'It is as unfair to the innocent as it is to genuine victims,' he said. Hakimi's lawyer, Fanny Colin, stated that the trial is ordered based on an accusation supported solely by the word of a woman who has obstructed the investigation, rejected all medical examinations and DNA searches, and refused to have her mobile phone analyzed or to name a key witness. In turn, Hakimi's defense claims that the two psychological assessments of the victim revealed a 'lack of lucidity regarding the facts she alleges to have denounced.' The defense also highlights that the victim attempted to hide from the judicial authorities several messages exchanged with a friend in which they planned to 'pluck' Mr. Hakimi. However, the victim's lawyer stated that nothing in the file suggests an attempt at extortion.
