France Sets World Record for Largest Fondue

The French have set a new record, preparing the world's largest fondue portion made of melted cheese, which allowed more than 5,000 people to gather at the event in the French Alps. Despite the rain and wind, participants enjoyed the rich substance. "The record is confirmed" - stated judge Anouk du Temari, noting the size of the portion - two cubic meters with a total weight of 2,177.5 kilograms. The result has been recorded in the Guinness World Records. Event organizer Jean-Charles Arnaud emphasized: "This is a magnificent moment of collective revival and the culmination of a year of preparations." He also expressed hope that the Swiss would attempt to break the new record. Guests enjoyed melted cheese fondue throughout the evening, which took place at a celebratory dinner at the castle in the French Alps, despite the strong wind. The fondue was served in a huge copper pot and offered in small bowls placed on tables under a large canopy. In 2009, the Swiss prepared a fondue portion weighing more than 1,440 kilograms, but that achievement was not recorded in the Guinness World Records. Fondue can be prepared from any type of cheese, and the judge noted that Americans might also try to break the record using cheddar.
