Winning the Goncourt Prize for a writer leads to the sale of hundreds of thousands of copies. Tomorrow, the Goncourt Academy will award its prestigious literary prize to one of four novels that have made it to the final. Literary and journalistic circles have been favoring one of the four finalists for months: Natasha Appanah, Emmanuel Carrère, Laurent Mauvignier, and Caroline Lamarche. The president of the Goncourt Academy, writer Philippe Claudel, said: "This year, no novel stands out from the others," so the competition is "open." The winner receives a symbolic check for 10 euros, which the recipient generally prefers to frame rather than deposit into their bank account.
