Flooding in Southern France After Heavy Rains

Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in the Herault region in southern France over the past few days, leading to evacuations, transport disruptions, and power outages. Severe floods have also hit several towns in the Herault region after heavy rainfall over three days, equivalent to two months' worth of precipitation. In Montpellier, the Lez river overflowed, flooding roads, tram lines, and public transport, while many streets became impassable. Near Beziers, rivers also burst their banks, flooding homes in Saint-Thibéry. In the coastal town of Palavas-les-Flots, dozens of residents were evacuated to emergency shelters. Authorities reported power outages affecting around 1,000 homes, while severe weather warnings remain in place. In the town of Sommières, located in the Gard region, flooding of the Vidourle river submerged the market square, according to Reuters.
