The family of international actress Brigitte Bardot has revealed the cause of her death. The cinema icon passed away at the end of December at the age of 91 in her home in southern France. Her husband, Bernard d'Ormal, told 'Paris Match' magazine that she died of cancer after two surgeries. He added: 'She was fully conscious and concerned about the fate of animals until her last moment.' The funeral service for Bardot was held at 11 a.m. in a private ceremony in the city of Saint-Tropez. Authorities announced that the ceremony would be broadcast on large screens set up in the Saint-Tropez port and in two squares in the small town, allowing residents and fans to say their goodbyes. Bardo always described Saint-Tropez as her refuge from the fame that made her name known in every home. The town hall stated last week: 'Brigitte Bardot will forever be linked to Saint-Tropez, which was her brightest ambassador.' This Mediterranean-facing cemetery has become the final resting place for several cultural figures, including director Roger Vadim, Bardot's first husband, who directed her in the famous film 'And God Created Woman,' a role that made her an international star. 'She imprinted the history of our city with her presence, her personality, and her aura.' Bardo had lived in her seaside home for decades and retired from the film industry in 1973 at the age of 39 after an international career that included over 20 films. She later became known as an animal rights activist, founding and running an organization dedicated to their protection. Despite leaving the film industry, she remained a prominent and often controversial public figure for decades due to her significant activism in animal rights. Bardot was buried in the so-called 'Cemetery of the Sea,' where her parents also rest.
