France Lowers Toxic Substance Limit in Infant Formula

France has lowered the maximum allowable limit of the toxic substance 'serulite' in infant formula to enhance protective measures, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. This step comes after several major companies were ordered to withdraw their products from markets worldwide due to contamination fears. The substance serulite, which can cause nausea and vomiting, was found in ingredients supplied by a factory in China to numerous infant formula manufacturers. This has led to product recalls in dozens of countries and raised concerns among parents. The ministry stated in a statement that the new maximum limit will be 0.014 micrograms of serulite per kilogram of body weight, compared to the previous 0.03 micrograms per kilogram. The ministry also added that the new, reduced limit of the substance will likely lead to further product recalls in France in the coming days.
