The French court issued a new arrest warrant against the former president of Syria Bashar al-Assad, whose rule in his country ended in December last year.
Al-Assad is accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the civil war in Syria, which began in 2011.
This arrest warrant is part of a prolonged investigation and efforts to hold accountable those who committed offenses during the conflict in Syria.
"This is an important step towards justice for the victims of the war in Syria. We will continue to work with partners around the world to establish accountability in this matter," said a representative of the French judiciary.
