French police seriously injured a man in Vitry Sur Seine, south of Paris, after initial reports suggested that this man had threatened officers with two sabers. The incident is not being treated as a terrorist act.
The individual was wandering the streets of Vitry with a bare torso in the middle of winter, holding a saber in each hand. When confronted by a police patrol, the man refused to drop the weapons, which led the officers to shoot him.
The Créteil Prosecutor's Office has ruled out the possibility of a terrorist background for the moment and has tasked the Judicial Police with investigating what happened.
