France Demands Return of the Statue of Liberty

According to the statements of Raphael Glucksmann, a member of the French center-left party Place Publique, this politician demanded that the United States return the Statue of Liberty as a critique of the country's alleged alliance with "tyrants." The Statue of Liberty was given by France to the United States in 1884 to commemorate the alliance between the two nations. The monument was dismantled and sent aboard the ship Isère of the French Navy, arriving at its destination in 1885, where it was received with enthusiasm, according to the National Park Service.

"We gave it to you, but apparently, you despise it," Glucksmann stated during a convention of his party, emphasizing what he perceives as a change in the United States' stance on values. "We are going to tell Americans that they have chosen to ally with tyrants, to the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: ‘Give us back the Statue of Liberty,’" expressed the politician, echoing his public stance on the situation.
