New Circular by French Interior Minister Marked as Breakthrough

On Monday, the Minister of Internal Affairs of France presented a new measure, which was described as "proactive" and aimed at tightening control over Islamic extremism. This measure calls for stricter oversight of mosques and other cultural gathering places.

According to the ministry, more than 89 mosques and other Muslim institutions have already been closed in the context of the fight against radical Islamism. At the same time, organizations branded as a ban on "sheikhs," which support radical views, also took part in this initiative.

An official representative of the ministry stated in an interview: "Our measures are designed to strengthen centralized control over various cultural institutions and demonstrate opposition to manipulations and illusions of isolation, which create a favorable environment for radicalization."
