France's highest court on Wednesday upheld the conviction of former President Nicolas Sarkozy for illegal campaign financing, marking another chapter in his legal woes after his recent nearly one-month imprisonment in a separate case. Sarkozy was convicted for his 2012 campaign receiving funding that exceeded the legal limit of 22.5 million euros. The court confirmed that Sarkozy was aware of the illegal origin of the funds, which came through sham contracts with Lebanese businessman Ziad Takieddine.
