France Launches Investigation into Sydney Terror Attack

The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office announced on Monday that it has opened an investigation in France, parallel to an investigation by Australian authorities, into the attack on a Jewish celebration on a beach in Sydney that left 15 dead and 42 injured. The investigation has been entrusted to the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) and the anti-terrorism branch of the National Directorate. Among the victims of the attack, which took place during Hanukkah (the Jewish Festival of Lights), was Daniel Elkaim, a 27-year-old French computer engineer. Another French national was also injured. The Public Prosecutor's Office stated in a statement that its investigation specifically focuses on two charges: 'murder linked to a terrorist act' and 'attempted murder linked to a terrorist project'.
