Cyberattack on French Ministry of Interior: Dozens of Secret Records Extracted

The French government announced on Wednesday that 'a few dozen' secret records were extracted during a cyberattack on the French Ministry of the Interior that lasted several days. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez described the situation as 'very serious' before the deputies, announcing immediate measures to enhance the ministry's cybersecurity. When asked about the scale of the attack during a questioning session in the National Assembly, the minister acknowledged the seriousness of the breach that occurred last week. Nunez explained that the security breach was due to weak 'digital safety', as passwords were exchanged that allowed access to protected files through compromised professional messaging systems. The breach allowed one or more hackers to access 'very sensitive' files, including a criminal records processing file and a wanted persons file, both of which are fundamental to the work of law enforcement. Despite a hacker group claiming responsibility for stealing data related to 16 million people, the minister confirmed that at this stage, only 'a few dozen records' have been extracted. In the face of this 'negligence', Laurent Nunez announced a series of immediate 'corrective measures'.
