French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the remarks made by his American counterpart Donald Trump about being struck by his wife are "inappropriate and beneath the required level." In a statement in the South Korean capital, Seoul, Macron said that these remarks "do not deserve a response." Trump had previously mocked the "weakness" of his French counterpart in front of his wife Brigitte at the White House, jokingly saying that the latter was "still recovering" from the effects of the famous slap he received from her.
