The Alpine Formula 1 team has announced a change in its driver lineup amid a review period following the resignation of team director Oliver Oakes. Franco Colapinto, a 21-year-old Argentine driver, will replace Australian Jack Doohan for the next five races.
Colapinto, who already has Formula 1 experience from competing with Williams last year, will join Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. The team plans to reassess the situation before the British Grand Prix in July. Flavio Briatore, Alpine's executive advisor, stated that the decision to place Franco in the car alongside Pierre comes after reviewing the early races of the season.
Franco Colapinto expressed his gratitude to the team for the opportunity to compete in the next five races and is committed to working hard to prepare for the upcoming challenges. On the other hand, Jack Doohan, who was unable to score points in the first six races of the season, showed his commitment to quickly catch up and deliver the best possible results alongside Pierre.
The team aims to evaluate its options and ensure the best possible driver lineup during a restructuring period. The upcoming races will be an opportunity to test new strategies and on-track performance before making long-term decisions.
