A statement said that members of their group raised the alarm, but rescuers were unable to resuscitate them. About 60 kilometers away, another avalanche swept two off-piste skiers away in the Arêches-Beaufort resort, a local official said. One of the skiers could not be resuscitated, while the second was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, according to regional official Jean-Pierre Mirabel.
