In a first incident, two French skiers were off-piste due to an avalanche in Val d'Isère, according to the resort's tourism office. A statement said that members of their group raised the alarm, but rescuers were unable to resuscitate them. About 60 kilometers away, another avalanche swept two off-piste skiers away in the Arêches-Beaufort resort, a local official said. One of the skiers could not be resuscitated, while the second was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, according to regional official Jean-Pierre Mirabel. Three skiers died in two avalanches in the French Alps on Saturday, local officials announced. The two men were buried under 2.5 meters of snow.
