Chinese brand BYD is reportedly interested in buying a large stake in Alpine, the French Formula 1 team in which Argentine driver Franco Colapinto races. BYD, which specializes in the production of electric and hybrid cars, has its sights set on Alpine, which is selling 25% of its shares. The Chinese company could also benefit from the new Formula 1 regulations, which give increasing importance to the electric part of the power units. However, there are several interested parties in acquiring this stake in Alpine. One of the first to view the acquisition of the 24% stake favorably was Briton Christian Horner, the historic team principal of Red Bull who left his post last year. In addition, Austrian Toto Wolff, CEO of Mercedes, has also shown interest. His goal is not only to acquire a stake in Alpine to turn it into the German team's second team (as is the case with Racing Point for Red Bull), but also to prevent Horner's return to the category, with whom he has a very bad relationship. According to the Argentine News Agency, if negotiations with Alpine do not reach a successful conclusion, BYD will also make an attempt for Aston Martin, a team that is performing very poorly despite the impressive investment it made to fight for the top positions this season, something that ultimately did not happen. In what has been of the season, the only one of its drivers who was able to finish a race was the Canadian Lance Stroll at the Australian GP, although he finished 15 laps behind the winner, who was the British George Russell (Mercedes).
