Air France suspends flights to Cuba due to fuel shortage

The French airline Air France has announced the suspension of all flights between Paris and Havana for two and a half months. The decision was made due to an acute shortage of aviation fuel in Cuba, which is exacerbated by the international political situation.

Air France suspends flights to Cuba due to fuel shortage

Air France indicated this Wednesday that as of March 29 it will suspend its flights to Cuba due to fuel supply problems on the island but that it intends to resume them from June 15, provided that the situation improves by then. In a message sent to the press, the French company explained that it is making this decision due to "the scarcity of fuel on the island of Cuba and its impact on economic and tourist activity." Its last flight will depart from Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport on Saturday, March 28, bound for Havana. The airline will contact by email, with mobile messages and through its own application the customers affected by the cancellations for having booked a trip during these two and a half months and will propose a postponement, a refund, or a ticket for the value of their reservation to be used later. Air France currently operates three flights per week between Paris and Havana. Its aircraft make a technical stop in the Bahamas on their return to France to refuel, a situation that will remain in place until the suspension at the end of this month. More than a dozen companies have announced the cancellation of their flights to Cuba due to jet fuel supply problems, and others have adjusted their connection programs with the Caribbean island to make stops that allow refueling. These problems have become particularly acute with the U.S. threats against any country that exports oil to Cuba.
